Rila Monastery (1st) 03.08.2010
The history tells us that this is the largest and most famous Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, founded in the 10th century. The Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments and it is a key tourist attraction for both Bulgaria and Southeastern Europe as a whole. As I could see, the monastery is very important for the economy of the city, because of the transportation and sellers who work in the region. My first impression there was more than I was expecting, because the synergy of the background and the hole building (main church, residential part and museum). The main church of the monastery was erected in the middle of the 19th century. Today I could see how imposing the building (both outside and inside) is. I saw one of the most precious items inside is the gold-plated iconostasis, famous for its wood-carving, beyond the legend about candles who you should buy to get more peace, harmony and good vibes. I can imagine that this money is to repair any damage and stuff like this. Around the main church is the residencial part that lots of monks lives there with typical clothes. Unfortunately we weren’t allowed to go up stairs or visit some rooms. There is a museum too, but I thought a kite expensive an amount required just for the entrance in the museum.
